On Inducing Polygons and Related Problems

چکیده
Bose et al. [1] asked whether for every simple arrangement A of n lines in the plane there exists a simple n-gon P that induces A by extending every edge of P into a line. We prove that such a polygon always exists and can be found in O(n log n) time. In fact, we show that every finite family of curves C such that every two curves intersect at least once and finitely many times and no three curves intersect at a single point possesses the following Hamiltonian-type property: the union of the curves in C contains a simple cycle that visits every curve in C exactly once.

On The Watchman Route Problem and Its Related Problems
We propose to study the watchman route problem and its related problems. The watchman route problem asks a shortest closed path within a given polygon so that every point in the polygon is visible from at least one point on the path. We first discuss the watchman route problem for simple polygons, for polygonal domains, and for arrangements of lines and line segments. We then focus on a problem...
متن کاملAbout Invalid, Valid and Clean Polygons
Spatial models are often based on polygons both in 2D and 3D. Many Geo-ICT products support spatial data types, such as the polygon, based on the OpenGIS ‘Simple Features Specification’. OpenGIS and ISO have agreed to harmonize their specifications and standards. In this paper we discuss the relevant aspects related to polygons in these standards and compare several implementations. A quite exh...
متن کاملOptimal Algorithms for Stabbing Polygons by Monotone Chains
In this paper we present optimal algorithms to compute monotone stabbers for convex polygons. More precisely, given a set of m convex polygons with n vertices in total we want to stab the polygons with an x-monotone polygonal chain such that each polygon is entered at its leftmost point and departed at its rightmost point. Since such a stabber does not exist in general, we study two related pro...
متن کاملOn Hamiltonian Triangulations in Simple Polygons
An n-vertex simple polygon P is said to have a Hamiltonian Triangulation if it has a triangulation whose dual graph contains a hamiltonian path. Such triangulations are useful in fast rendering engines in Computer Graphics. We give a new characterization of polygons with hamiltonian triangulations and use it to devise O(n logn)-time algorithms to recognize such polygons. We also give eecient al...
متن کاملA New Heuristic Algorithm for Drawing Binary Trees within Arbitrary Polygons Based on Center of Gravity
Graphs have enormous usage in software engineering, network and electrical engineering. In fact graphs drawing is a geometrically representation of information. Among graphs, trees are concentrated because of their ability in hierarchical extension as well as processing VLSI circuit. Many algorithms have been proposed for drawing binary trees within polygons. However these algorithms generate b...
